- Description / Abstract
- As of September 9, 2024, the Ontario Association of Medical Laboratories announced updated ferritin cut-offs that would enable more people with iron deficiency to be identified. This reflects the work done by the Raise the Bar quality improvement project that is based on the data that show that iron deficiency is underdiagnosed and undertreated. The goal of this course is to enable pharmacists to look more closely at patients who may be at risk of iron deficiency and collaborate with primary care providers to optimize management when appropriate. This course includes three modules with three practical case scenarios. Although pharmacists in many jurisdictions are not able to order lab tests including ferritin, it is important to explore when ferritin and other markers may need to be assessed, and how iron deficiency can be identified and managed. Pharmacists can play a role in facilitating lab testing and following up on results.
